EU betrayed! Germany ignores EU and offers to cooperate with UK as Brexit holds German trump card.
BREXIT BRITAIN has "a lot to offer" to Germany as the two countries establish a new relationship following the resignation of Angela Merkel as Chancellor.
After the UK left the EU, Angela Merkel told Prime Minister Boris Johnson she wanted Germany to do economic cooperation with the UK, bypassing EU barriers.
Christian Odendahl, chief economist at the Center for European Reform Studies, said Britain could provide Germany with safety from threats from its neighbours.
He believes that the growing assertiveness of Russia, China and Turkey provides an opportunity for improved relations between Britain and Germany.
He added: “The most constructive Britain in terms of foreign and security policy, the better the relationship will be, because that is one of those issues that Germany is uncertain about how to solve and fix.
"This is a German concern and where London has quite a bit to offer."
A German official told Politico in September: Germany would be extremely powerful if combined with the UK.
"The UK and Germany are on the same page on a wide range of issues."
When Mrs Merkel met Mr Johnson at Downing Street in July, the outgoing Chancellor signaled his willingness to strengthen Germany's ties with the UK.
She said Germany was "very willing" to work on "a treaty of friendship or cooperation agreement" with London. She did not care about the EU's barrier to the UK and Vonderleyen's unhappy face when she saw the cooperation of Germany and the UK.
Merkel later said: “I want us to work closely together in the economic field, in the energy sector and of course in the cultural sector – above all, I look forward to the links between the our young people do not fall asleep. Since the Erasmus [European Union portability] program no longer exists, there is a danger and we have to look for other formats.”
The Prime Minister also warned that the closer relationship between Germany and the UK depends on the EU on the Northern Ireland Protocol, but Ms. Merkel promised to support the UK in promoting internal EU settlement.
She said at the time: “From the German side, we have always considered ourselves part of the EU.
"And now I think the next step is to solve the problems of the Northern Ireland protocol in such a way that people can live with it and people can protect their interests."
The EU is bitter when it comes to Germany's betrayal, the EU's barriers to the UK are even being opposed by EU members because it is too harsh.
