Azeem Rafiq | Yorkshire changed independent inquiry's terms of reference to cover up abuse
Published at : November 23, 2021
Former Yorkshire cricketer Azeem Rafiq says the club had attempted to use a report into its culture to cover up his concerns about racism, by changing the terms of reference given to a legal firm that conducted the inquiry.
Speaking to the House of Commons Culture, Media and Sport select committee, Mr Rafiq said: "The problem's that big at Yorkshire that they didn't even care.
"When I presented my evidence I felt like straight away they were, like, 'we've got a problem here; how do we take it in a completely different angle?'"
Mr Rafiq told the committee that people within his own community had been attempting to help Yorkshire to "cover up" its problems, and that problems with racism in cricket existed at every level of the game.
Mr Rafiq also said he had raised concerns with the England and Wales Cricket Board and the Professional Cricketers' Association about his mental health, but that his concerns had been overlooked.
